Deriving SN from PSN: a general proof technique

چکیده

In the framework of explicit substitutions there is two termination properties: preservation of strong normalization (PSN), and strong normalization (SN). Since there are not easily proved, only one of them is usually established (and sometimes none). We propose here a connection between them which helps to get SN when one already has PSN. For this purpose, we formalize a general proof technique of SN which consists in expanding substitutions into “pure” λ-terms and to inherit SN of the whole calculus by SN of the “pure” calculus and by PSN. We apply it successfully to a large set of calculi with explicit substitutions, allowing us to establish SN, or, at least, to trace back the failure of SN to that of PSN.

Strong Normalization of λμμ̃-Calculus with Explicit Substitutions

The λμμ̃-calculus, defined by Curien and Herbelin [7], is a variant of the λμ-calculus that exhibits symmetries such as term/context and call-by-name/call-by-value. Since it is a symmetric, and hence a non-deterministic calculus, usual proof techniques of normalization needs some adjustments to be made to work in this setting. Here we prove the strong normalization (SN) of simply typed λμμ̃-calcu...

Proving PSN after ruining a perfectly good calculus

We prove that a modified version of Kesner and Lengrand’s λlxr calculus has the property of preservation of strong normalisation (PSN) of β-reduction. The proof uses a general technique due to Lengrand and a slight adaptation of his proof of PSN for λlxr. In other work, our proof will be used to prove PSN for another calculus.

Explicit Substitution On the Edge of Strong Normalization

We use the recursive path ordering (RPO) technique of semantic labelling to show the preservation of strong normalization (PSN) property for several calculi of explicit substitution. PSN states that if a term M is strongly normalizing under ordinary p-reduction (using ‘global’ substitutions), then it is strongly normalizing if the substitution is made explicit (‘local’). There are different way...

Analysis of the Binding Sites of Porcine Sialoadhesin Receptor with PRRSV

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) can infect pigs and cause enormous economic losses to the pig industry worldwide. Porcine sialoadhesin (pSN) and CD163 have been identified as key viral receptors on porcine alveolar macrophages (PAM), a main target cell infected by PRRSV. In this study, the protein structures of amino acids 1-119 from the pSN and cSN (cattle sialoadhe...

Porcine arterivirus attachment to the macrophage-specific receptor sialoadhesin is dependent on the sialic acid-binding activity of the N-terminal immunoglobulin domain of sialoadhesin.

The sialic acid-binding lectin sialoadhesin (Sn) is a macrophage-restricted receptor for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). To investigate the importance of pSn sialic acid-binding activity for PRRSV infection, an R(116)-to-E mutation was introduced in the predicted sialic acid-binding domain of pSn, resulting in a mutant, pSn(RE), that could not bind sialic acids. PSn...
